It's hard to process what's happening in Ukraine. President Zelensky addressed the Venice Biennale by Zoom and commented on the importance of art as a way of communicating the horrors of war in a way that facts and statistics can't. When I saw Picasso's Guernica for the first time in 1978, it completely bowled me over and had a lifelong influence on me. I am also hugely influenced by artists such as Kathe Kollwitz. The prevailing question about this and other wars is "Why?".
